Multi-day and Location shoot for someone that I’ve only done car photography so far. This one is a doozie! I need to photo 9 locations at sunset and when the lights come on. 7 of these are in the DFW area and the other two are about 60+ miles outside of Dallas. I haven’t done any architectural photography before so this is going to be another skill to add to the ever growing list. It’s like I’m in Boy Scouts again earning Merit badges. My thinking on this is to be above the roof line to get a full exterior shot of the locations. I have to do this at Sunset and after the sun has set to capture the lighting of the location. So immediately I’m thinking, bed of a truck with a tall ladder but that is dangerous and I won’t be able to get as high as I’d like. Next thought, Drone. Taking the step up from analog to digital was a big need in the industry. Now to take it further and higher, time to go airborne. This is going to be a whole new direction with the business.
Something that I haven’t talked about before is my dream of my production company. And I get this feeling that opportunities like these are driving me in that direction. I have several people that I could bring in and get it running. I think it would be a great business but there are so many production houses out there now. I’ve worked for one before! It was a great experience but to think of all the behind the scenes work that goes into getting a business running and keep it running, is quite scary. But it’d be amazing to go that direction and follow the dreams. But I don’t want to set down roots here in Dallas. So how do I do this without getting anchored here in Dallas.
Keep doing it myself. If I can just pull in enough work and keep these big clients coming in, then I should be able to get moved and then set anchor or join another business doing what I’m doing. Several Photographers that I follow seem to be picked up by big corporations to do work all the time so I know I can do it as well. There is so much to shoot out there and to get a client to select you is not very easy. But as long as I keep getting these clients to show up knocking on my door, I guess I’m doing it right.
