It isn’t easy and I never expected it to be. I really need to get my head around my goals and start planning outings to make new clients. There are so many places that need work and I’ve got to convince them I’m the best for the job in this world of point and shoot photographers. My experience with Brass Hat has taught me that. They were blown away by my work compared to others that took photos for them. I’ve also thought about completing my print portfolio and then visit some photography studios. It’s time to work on the craft but there are so many interruptions with life. Balancing a freelance life and family life isn’t easy.
I’m getting several more prospects contacting me for work. Now just to get them to be clients is the tough part. I’ve worked on a lot of behind the scenes items for the business lately and need to get the traffic flowing. I’ve also learned a lot from working on a few side projects that has helped me gear my business for the right direction. Now to start advertising and getting clients in the books. Would be easy with a department that took care of that but, I don’t have one just yet. One stop shop, Me. I’ve joined a few local business clubs and meetups this week to start networking. I’ve always had trouble with meeting people at events like these but I need to step up and get in there and get it done. Only way to get new business is to meet people and tell my story and show them my work. Offering my services and start building the list of people needing work done.
I know this can be done. Lots of people have done it and do it. There are several people that I follow and admire and I need to keep watching them and learning from them. To start a local small business takes a lot but it can be done. Contacts are key. Although you may feel as if you’re doing it all on your own, there are a lot of people supporting you and promoting you. I’ve made so many friends through photography that have helped me and I hope to continue to. Thanks again to all those that do support the small businesses and freelancers!!
