We don’t get to do it often enough but you really need to experiment while shooting. Learning some new way to shoot or setup your lighting or new equipment. I got the chance to do that tonight with an old friend and his amazing looking VW GTI. Usually when I’m shooting a car, the owner is ready to get it over with and get on the road. But when you’re with friends or someone you’re close with, you get to enjoy what you’re doing a bit more.
I currently have an Eye-Fi card so that I can transmit the images I shot to a tablet so we can see them. I feel as if i’t more engaging for the client and they are able to see results as we’re shooting. Tonight while Jason and were shooting, he was the one popping the shutter for the last half of the shoot. I told him why we did certain settings, how the camera functioned and what was happening when we did different exposures. And I love that interaction and the teaching of this line of work. I guess you could say that in most arts, you’re able to do that and I find that is what is lacking in society. We don’t really share talents or crafts much anymore. We used to hand down crafts or educate your kids so they could take over what your family had built.
My little one is about to be 2 but I’m so ready for her to be old enough to teach the things I love. And hope that she might follow in my footsteps. I will enjoy all our time together and make sure she’s able to try her hand at whatever she wants. And make sure she enjoys what she is doing in her life. I think that is why so many people are unhappy in their jobs, it’s not what the love or enjoy. They think they are stuck doing it for the rest of their life. And that just isn’t true.
