If you don’t have one, you must be dead or boring or just dead boring. These are items that you dream to do and things you must do before you kick the bucket. I have a personal list and then my professional list. Some of the items on these lists are on both because my passion for photography is so ingrained in my life that I dream of being in one place for two reasons. Example; top of my personal list is to visit Yosemite National Park just because it’s such a gorgeous park. I’ve wanted to go there since I was a young boy after seeing so many of our other National Parks. Well, it’s at the top of my photography list as well because I want to spend two weeks there to explore and photograph as much of it as I can. And I’m finding that many of the top adventures are on both my list. I love photography and one of the items on both is to make a living photographing our World.
If you’ve followed me for anytime you know that I love photographing cars. I’ve done it for over 10 years and I see no stopping it in sight. On my lists, I have a few very large cars shows/events that I want to attend. SEMA, Bonneville Flat Races, Pebble Beach, Barrett Jackson and so on. There are so many parts of my life that are tied to Photography how do I not continue to follow what drives me to enjoy Life? There are several photographers that I admire and watch their work. I see them living off their work and working for several large companies. I love watching what they are working on and hope one day I’ll be doing the same. Seeing these individuals being invited to shows and shooting for these companies inspires to do the same. I’ve shot for Ford, Dallas Cowboys, and a few local agencies and I’m ready to check off an item on my list. Walking amongst other photographers and talking to them like we’re old friends. I’ve worked with a lot of them and I hope to never meet one that I don’t know. There are so many of us out there and we all bring something amazing to the table.
Your passion should be such a part of your life that it connects all of your life. One of my favorite photographers is John Jackson. I’ve been watching him for years and he is one of the best at what we do. This dude is making such a career out of his photography, he lives in a van/RV (sometimes down by a river) and travels to all his shoots. What I’d give to spend a week with him and see that kind of life. It’d be more difficult for me having a little one and a wife that is planted in Dallas at the moment but we do have a trailer and can travel.
Then there is this character Dale Martin. We have similar stories. His from Dallas and we’re IT nerds that spent many years working for big companies. Oh and we love photographing automobiles. It’s amazing to watch him travel to all sorts of locations to photograph trucks in some amazing spots. That is what inspires me the most to improve what I’m doing and work hard and become coming freelance photographer living off my work. The hardest part I find about doing this is the business side of the job. There are a lot of late nights. I’d love to see Dale and John’s schedule and then try and wiggle in some play time with my daughter. But I’ve always said, “Photography is so much of a passion, It wakes me before sunrise and keeps me working past sunset.”
Maybe I should add Rest to my bucketlist. But then I’d get bored or something. Peace out! The suns coming up!
